School Age Child Care

School age child care is a service that offers programs for elementary students. This is a particularly important issue for two-income families and single parents. This service can be sponsored by the school district or contracted to another agency, such as Campfire, Boys and Girls Club or the YMCA/YWCA. A variety of locations may be utilized, including schools, churches, or a community center. All childcare programs should meet Department of Human Services (DHS) guidelines for personnel, but the licensing of the programs depends upon sponsorship of the program. School districts operating programs are not required to be licensed by the DHS, as they are governed by the Department of Education. Funding for childcare may be obtained from grants, community groups, employers or fees.
