About Iowa Community Education Association

The Iowa Community Education Association (ICEA) promotes community education in Iowa. It provides networking opportunities for staff and volunteers of school districts and community based organizations that are involved in working to meet identified needs with available resources.

The purpose of the association is to promote, improve and expand community education concept in Iowa. The association holds an annual conference each fall. In 2008, the theme was "Connecting the Pieces."; The one-day conference provided workshops in the areas of Innovation and Creativity, Best Practice, Youth Development After School and Effectiveness and Results. The association publishes the CATALYST, a bi-monthly e-newsletter designed to keep members current with events in community education.

The association works with the Iowa Department of Education and the Iowa Legislature to promote legislation for enhancing the quality of life in communities across Iowa. The ICEA Board of Directors provides direction for the association through seven face-to-face meetings during the year.
